Welcome to the Official http://www.sailhabilitation.org/ Annex DATELINE 19 SEPT 2008 : Steven Lance and Margaret Freeman elected to the Sail Habilitaion Board of Directors to serve as co-secretary. Please note that many of the Sail Habilitation pages presented here on StevenLance.com are officially sanctioned duplicates of the pages that appear on the official SailHbilitation.org web site. The purpose of this duplication is to assure connectivity to the Sail Habilitation Organization. Background of Steven Lance's association with Sail Habilitation In 1994 while attending a Christmas Party at a mutual friends home, Steve was introduced to Sail Habilitation founder, Dr. Stephanie Argyris who asked if Steve would like to "help out." After Dr. Argyris explained the purpose and functioning of the organization --providing clients, many who are physically challenged the opportunity to for an afternoon to be unencumbered by their wheelchairs and enjoy a day sailing. Understanding the need for physical therapists to assist in the client "transfers" Steve hesitated and explained to Dr. Argyris, "I'm sorry, Dr. Stephanie, but I'm not a physical therapist. I'm afraid I am not trained to lift anyone. All I can offer is to come out and lift their spirits." That was all Dr. Argyris needed to hear, and invited Steve to join Sail Habilitation at their next Sail Day. "Not knowing how I was going to help out, I decided to bring out my camera equipment and see if I could help capture the event on film." "With some guidance and direction by Dr. Argyris, I did my best to document the entire day's activities, from sign in to the lunch hosted by the Lavallette Yacht Club (LYC). I photographed clients signing in, being "transferred" to the boats and then got to go out on one of the boats and shoot the event --from the water! It is my sincere hope that just one of of the nearly 1,000 pictures I've had the great pleasure to shoot over these past five years with Sail Habilitation, will touch you as they have touched me . . . not to sadden, embarrass, or disturb, but to inspire. . .inspire you to join our cause by sharing your time as a volunteer, or making a donation to help us continue to prove that there is life to experience. . .out of the wheelchair." --Steven Lance, ACH, MH Co-Secretary, Sail Habilitation September 2007 COMING SOON to SAIL HABILITATION A full library of photos from Sail Habilitation "Sail Days" from 2004 to 2008!
